Thank you to the Ogle County Sheriff for leading the parade, to Kourtney Adams from Channel 23 News for announcing the parade (lots of names to pronounce — great job!!), and for the Leaf River and Forreston American Legion posts for starting us off right. And we can’t forget Sid Anderson, Tena Krueger and Kelly Neslund for the National Anthem (beautifully done, as always). The 2018 parade winners are: Not-for-profit organization – 1st place: Leaf River Soaring Eagles, 2nd place: Leaf River Busy Beavers and 3rd place: Pecatonica Downtown. Vintage Car – 1st place: Vintage Motor Car Club of America with their 1963 Studebaker, 2nd place: Roger Erickson with his 1949 Ford Convertible and 3rd place: Dave Jackson with his 1986 Oldsmobile Cutlas 442. Vintage Truck – 1st place: Byron Fire Protection District 1929 Chevrolet Fire Engine. Horse Hitch – 1st place: Carriage Springs Farm. Equestrian – 1st place: Ogle County 4-H Horse Drill Team and 2nd place: Transport for Christ.
The Grand Parade is the Leaf River Summer Daze Festival finale! It begins at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday following the Lion’s Club Pork Chop Dinner (see Sunday’s Events at Bertolet Park for details). Stake out your spot early, then sit back and enjoy!! (click the link below for a copy of parade route).
Once again we have the highly skilled and experienced
World Champion Phantom Regiment!
The regiment is comprised of 135 dedicated members who age 14-22 years. They typically travel 15,000 miles throughout the country over the summer months. They host the annual Show of Shows at Boylan High School in Rockford and attend competition finals at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison, Wisconsin.
A few of the 95 other parade entrants include the American Legion Riders, Forreston Jr. High School Band, Several Area Fair Queens, and the Tebala Shrine Klowns
